SEATTLE, Wash- Sonoma State had a sour end to their Northwest road trip on Monday afternoon as they lost to Seattle University 4-0 at Championship Field in Seattle. The loss evens out the Seawolves' record at 1-1-0 as they head into next weekend's Seawolf Classic Tournament. The Redhawks improve to 2-0-1 win the win.
Seattle got on the board in the 14th minute when Cassy Smith scored an unassisted goal, her first of the season. Ashley Porter put Seattle up 2-0 in the 30th minute when she scored off a double assist by Smith and Leah Wymer. Porter led off the second half with another goal, this time on a free kick from 35 yards out. Maryann Boddy closed out the scoring just thirty seconds later on assist by Porter, setting the final margin at 4-0.
Sonoma State was outshot 19-8 overall and had just one shot on goal, compared to 11 for Seattle.. Freshman Tracy Webster was the lone Seawolf with more than one shot.
SSU will host Western Washington on Friday afternoon to kick off the Seawolf Classic.
