Men's Soccer Makes It Eight In A Row

Andrew Bailey scored his team-high seventh goal of the year on Friday
LA JOLLA, Calif-  Sonoma State got two goals in the final 20 minutes to come from behind and beat UC San Diego 2-1 on Friday afternoon in La Jolla.  The win extends SSU's winning streak to eight as they improve to 9-3-0, 8-0-0 CCAA.  The Tritons fall to 6-4-1, 4-3-1 CCAA.

After a scoreless first half, it would be the Tritons scoring first as Tom Caplan headed in a ball of a set piece in the 54th minute.  Up a goal, the Tritons tried to stack the defense and hold SSU's talented offense out of the net.  They wouldn't succeed.

Andrew Bailey found the equalizer in the 71st minute on a beautiful through ball from freshman Casey Dayton.  The goal was Bailey's team-high seventh of the year.

The game-winner came off the foot of Mike Travis, who punched in a ball from about 12 yards out in the 86th minute.

"We showed a lot of heart and a lot of grit today.  Playing in front of a large, loud crowd, we got behind early, but we didn't quit," said SSU head coach Marcus Ziemer.

Sonoma State held a commanding 17-4 lead in shots.  Fouls were fairly even (10-9 in SSU's favor), but the Tritons saw one of their players, Dustin Tannenhaus, ejected from the game after a second yellow card in the 73rd minute.

SSU is off to their best conference start since 1993, when they started 12-0-0 en route to a conference championship.

The Seawolves will try to make it nine in a row on Sunday when they face long-time nemesis Cal State Dominguez Hills.
