BAKERSFIELD, Calif- When you're hot....you're hot. Not even NCAA Division I bound Cal State Bakersfield could slow down the streaking Sonoma State men's basketball team on Thursday night as the Seawolves got their fifth straight win, 65-58 over the Roadrunners at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. The win lifts the Seawolves to 6-7, 5-4 CCAA.
After a 1-7 start to the season, the Seawolves have won their last five games, all conference matches. It was the second straight year that SSU has won in Bakersfield, one of the toughest venues in the CCAA.
The Seawolves played a crisp, efficient first half, limiting the 'Runners to 29% shooting to take a 31-23 halftime lead. They continued to surge into the second half, growing the lead to 19 at 49-30 before Dwuan Rice led a 'Runner comeback.
CSUB pulled to within two at 56-54 with 4:11 left, but the Seawolves pulled away again for the win.
J.T. Tipton led the Seawolves with 20 points and seven rebounds. He shot 6-of-9 from the field and was 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Andrew Kochevar finished with 12 points, including two clutch second half three-pointers.
Rice led CSUB with 19 points- 17 of them in the second half- but it wouldn't be enough to complete the comeback.
The Seawolves will try to keep the good times rolling on Saturday night when they face Cal State L.A.
