Baseball Rolls Past Hawaii Pacific For 12th Straight

Chase McGuire had four RBIs to lead the Seawolves on Wednesday
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State routed Hawaii Pacific 14-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Seawolf Diamond for their 12th straight victory.  The win streak is just one off the school record of 13 set during the 2003 season.  With the victory, the 11th-ranked Seawolves improve to 25-5 on the year while the Sea Warriors drop to 17-12.

Sonoma State had a 13-game winning streak stretching from April 12th to May 4, 2003.  With Wednesday's win, the Seawolves have now won 20 of their last 22 games.

On Wednesday, the Seawolves jumped on HPU starter Cruz Hatanaka for three unearned runs in the first inning.  Hawaii Pacific would pull to within one with a pair of runs in the third, but from there, the rout was on.  SSU got two runs of their own in the third, then five in the fourth and three in the sixth to make it 13-3.  A single run in the eighth inning gave the Seawolves the 14-3 win.

Sonoma State used 20 different players in the game and eleven different players had hits.  Chase McGuire was the lone Seawolf, however, with two hits.  He also drove in four runs, tying his career-high.  Tyler Wightman had three RBI's, two of them coming on his second home run of the year in the third inning.

SSU starter Matt Garnett went three innings, allowing four hits and two runs.  Kenny Cook pitched the next three innings, allowing just three hits and a run, earning the win in the process.  Victor Schramm and Devon Kreyenhagen closed it out with three scoreless shutout innings.

HPU got three hits from Colton Silva and two more from Tripper Chung and Paul Nishimura.

The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader at noon.
