Streak Pushed To 16 After Another Sweep Of HPU

Taylor Lewis didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning in Friday's game two win
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State completed a five-game sweep of Hawaii Pacific on Friday afternoon with 10-1 and 3-1 victories at Seawolf Diamond.  The wins extend the Seawolves' winning streak to a school record 16 games in a row as they improve to 29-5 on the season.  HPU drops to 17-16.

The eleventh-ranked Seawolves outscored the Sea Warriors 46-8 in the series, lowering their team earned run average to a paltry 2.23.  SSU has won 24 of their last 26 games and is 22-1 at home this season.

Brent Lysander (6-1) got the win in game one for SSU as he allowed just one run and six hits in six innings of work.  Amazingly, Lysander's ERA actually went up after his performance.  The San Diego native has a CCAA-best ERA of 1.17.

SSU got three runs in the third inning to take a lead they would not relinquish.  Two of those runs came on B.J. Collom's fourth home run of the year, a monster shot to right field.  HPU would score their lone run in the fourth inning on a pair of doubles by Danny Lee and Mark Veneri, but SSU answered right back with a run in the fifth.  The Seawolves put the game out of reach with a two-run seventh inning and a four-run eighth.

SSU hit four home runs in game one.  In addition to Collom, Brandon Zenimura, Konrad Thieme, and Leo Avila all homered.  Avila, Thieme, and Nick Nosti each had two hits.  Matt Means and Gary Scott closed out the game with three shutout innings of relief.

Sonoma State would score three times in the first inning of game two to give starter Taylor Lewis all the cushion he'd need.  After a Tyler Wightman two-run double, Chase McGuire brought home a run on an RBI single.  Jason Buhagiar's RBI fielder's choice made it 3-0.

Lewis (W, 3-1) held the Sea Warriors without a hit until the fifth inning, when HPU finally got a run on the board.  Down 3-1 in the ninth, the Sea Warriors loaded the bases with one out against SSU's Paige Dumont, but the 6'8" closer worked his way out of the jam for his ninth save of the season.

Nosti and Wightman each had two hits for SSU in the nightcap.

Sonoma State will try to keep its incredible run going on Tuesday when they host Cal State East Bay at 2:00 pm.
