Four-Goal Third Period Lifts Seawolves

Seawolves went 2-2 at the Aggie Shootout.

DAVIS, Calif. - Eight days after the Sonoma State women's water polo team lost its frist game ever to Cal State Monterey Bay, they bounced back to drop the Otters 10-6 in the finale of the UC Davis Aggie Shootout Sunday night.

Sonoma State (15-13 overall, 5-8 WWPA) held a slim 4-3 lead at the half, but in the third period it scored four goals and held CSUMB to one for an 8-4 advantage. The Otters cut the lead to 8-6 early in the fourth period, but SSU netted two goals going away for a 10-6 win.

Jessica Scott recorded her second hat trick of the day and moved past to 50-goal plateau. She now has 51 on the season. Tasha Thiele and Laurel Stricklin each scored a pair. Sam Burchard and Brooke Smith eached scored one.

Last Saturday the Otters earned their first win ever against the Seawolves in a 10-9 decision in Seaside. Sonoma State now holds a 13-1 all-time record in the series.

Sonoma State finishes the UC Davis Aggie Shootout with a 2-2 record and went 2-1 against WWPA teams. The only WWPA loss as to tournament host, No. 9 UC Davis.

Sonoma State is back in actioon Thursday when they travel to Hayward to take on WWPA rival, Cal State East Bay at 1:30 pm. The Pioneers are ranked No. 5 in the Collegiate III poll.
