Seawolves Beat Redhawks In Five For First Win

Taylor Manton had 46 digs in SSU's win over Seattle University
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Marianne Fox continued her stellar play and Taylor Manton neared the school record for digs in a match as Sonoma State picked up their first win of the season, 3-2 over Seattle University on Sunday at the Seawolf Spike.  The win lifts the Seawolves to 1-2 on the season.  The Redhawks finish tourney play at 1-3.

The Seawolves took a 1-0 edge with a 30-25 win in game one, but saw that lead quickly evaporate.  Seattle ran away with a 30-19 game two victory before winning 30-24 in game three.  SSU bounced back, however, in the fourth, emerging with a 30-19 win.

Game five saw the Seawolves pull ahead time and again, just to see the Redhawks tie things up.  SSU had match point on three occasions and finally made it stick when Kendahl Batiste and Rikki Buckshnis teamed up for a big block, ending the game at 16-14.

Fox, a freshman from Forestville, hit .302 for the match with 19 kills in 43 attacks.  She had 29 kills in SSU's last game.  Taylor Manton turned in the second-best dig total in a single match in school history.  The senior from Santa Rosa had 46, just four off Lillian Harms' standard set last year.

Lindsay Brown also continued her fine work at the setter position, guiding the offense with 54 assists.  Kristy Sather, in her Sonoma State debut, went for 14 kills and 17 digs.

Libby Graff had 16 kills to lead Seattle.  Heather Gerke posted 26 digs and Jamie Mellies turned in 52 assists.

The Seawolves conclude the tournament later today against Notre Dame de Namur (1-2).
