SEASIDE, Calif- The Sonoma State baseball team kicked off the 2008 season with a doubleheader sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday afternoon in Seaside. The Seawolves won the first game 7-1 and the second game 12-2. The Seawolves and Otters will conclude their non-conference series with a single game on Saturday.
The Seawolves kicked off game one with a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run single by
Tyrese McDaniel. That would be all the offense a trio of Seawolf pitchers would need.
Matt Means was stellar, allowing just one hit over 4 2/3 innings for the win. Raashad Tucker pitched three innings, striking out seven, and Kenny Cook closed the door with the final four outs.
McDaniel drove in four runs and was 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run.
Konrad Thieme also homered for SSU. Freshman
Cameron Cook was 2-for-4 and newcomers
Kris Haycock and
Nick Ramos were also 2-for-4 as the Seawolves pounded out 11 hits in the opener.
Game two was much of the same for Otter pitchers...too much
Tyrese McDaniel. McDaniel was 2-for-2 with four more RBIs as the Seawolves put up five runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth of the six-inning game.
Kyle Jones had two hits and
Dave Herman drove in a pair.
Gary Moran got the start and allowed just two runs in 4.1 innings of work.
Paul Oules was lights-out out of the 'pen, surrendering just one hit and no runs in an inning and two thirds.
