ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State Seawolves returned to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Cal State Stanislaus in a non-conference doubleheader by scores of 13-4 and 1-0. The wins lift the Seawolves' record to 8-1 on the year. The Warriors fall to 5-3.
The Seawolves are a perfect 5-0 at home this season. They have outscored their opponents 59-7 in those games.
Through nine games the Seawolves have a team earned run average of 1.31.
The Seawolves scored in bunches in game one, plating three runs in the third and fourth and four in the fifth. In all, SSU would score in five of their eight innings.
Dave Herman and
Kyle Jones each drove in three runs each and
Ian Bridges and
Travis Babin each had three hits.
SSU starter
Gary Moran was masterful, striking out seven in five innings of one-hit ball. Save for a rough stretch by
Paul Oules in the sixth, the bullpen was solid too as
Max Smoot,
Josh Priest, and
John Bonifacini held the Warriors scoreless over the final 3 2/3 innings.
In game two it would be a
Konrad Thieme RBI single in the fifth inning that was the difference. After
Ian Bridges reached with his second hit of teh game, Thieme drove him home, providing the SSU pitching staff the run they'd need for victory.
Rashad Tucker went the first five for the win.
Morgan Rodriguez and
Tyler Fockler pitched in relief with Fockler earning his first save in a Seawolf uniform.
