ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Cal State Stanislaus swept Sonoma State on Friday in a CCAA softball doubleheader at Seawolf Field in Rohnert Park. The Warriors won by scores of 5-0 and 3-1 to improve to 13-15, 10-8 CCAA. The Seawolves fall to 9-16, 1-11 CCAA.
Playing with out two of their best hitters,
Megan Ochylski and
Ashley Eisemann, the Seawolves struggled at the plate against the Warriors' Jessica Gaumnitz and Jennifer Arnold.
Gaumnitz held the Seawolves to two hits and struck out 11 in her game one win. The Warriors scored twice in the first inning, on an RBI double by Meghan Franksen and an RBI single by Alyssa Guzman. Stanislaus would tack on three more runs in the sixth inning for insurance.
In game two, the Seawolves squeezed out three hits against Arnold, but again, they were playing from behind when the Warriors took a 1-0 in the fourth on a Alicia Reid RBI single. The Seawolves were quick to pull even, though, as
Shyrle Hawes drove home
Calli Herzog with an RBI single. Herzog was a pinch runner for
Nicole Cordova, who laced a one-out double to left center.
Stanislaus would score a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to pull away. Alicia Reid and Sarah Shamblin each finished the game 3-for-4. Britney Borba and Jennifer Arnold also had two hits apiece in the Warriors' 12-hit attack.
The Seawolves and Warriors will return to the diamond with another doubleheader on Saturday.
