ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Cal State Stanislaus won twice on Saturday to complete a four-game CCAA sweep of Sonoma State at Seawolf Field in Rohnert Park. The Warriors won 8-0 and 4-2 to improve to 15-15, 12-8 CCAA. The Seawolves fall to 9-18, 1-13 CCAA.
The Warriors erupted for eight runs in the five-inning opener. Stanislaus scored twice in the second, twice in the third, once in the fourth, and three times in the fifth inning to take the shutout win. Alicia Reid was 3-for-3 and Jessica Scholl and Alyssa Guzman drove in two runs each.
Jessica Gaumnitz was solid on the mound, allowing just two hits in five shutout innings.
Kayla Ledford was tagged with the loss for Sonoma State after throwing two innings and allowing four runs.
Held to just seven hits total in the first three games of the series, the Seawolves finally got some runners on base in the finale as they posted ten hits. Unfortunately, they left nine runners on base and were unable to collect a big hit when they needed it in a 4-2 loss.
Stanislaus took a 3-0 lead in the fifth on RBI's by Scholl, Reid, and Sarah Shamblin. SSU would rally in the bottom of the inning, as
Nicole Cordova legged out a two-run triple to make it 3-2. The Warriors tacked on another run in the sixth, then turned to star hurler Jessica Gaumnitz, who shut down the Seawolves in the final two innings.
Shyrle Hawes led the Seawolves with three hits while Cordova and Nikki Freiberg had two hits each. Meghan Franksen was 3-for-3 to lead the Warriors. Jennifer Arnold earned the win with a five-inning, two-run performance.
The Seawolves will head to the Tournament of Champions next weekend at Cal State Stanislaus.
