SANTA CRUZ, Calif- The Sonoma State women's tennis team took care of business Tuesday afternoon against UC Santa Cruz at East Tennis Courts, defeating the Banana Slugs, 8-1. Sonoma improves to a perfect 2-0, while UC Santa Cruz falls to 0-4.
Starting things off for the Seawolves was the duo of
Haley Hickock and
Dana Carollo, who bounced the UC Santa Cruz pair of Chrissy Nichol and Chloe McHugh, 8-2.
Stephanie Luk and
Molly Maguire posted their first doubles victory at the No. 1 slot, as they outlasted Taylor Mannix and Kyla Rowe, 9-7. UC Santa Cruz only had five players competing in the match, giving the Seawolves default wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles respectively.
Sonoma parlayed their doubles success by winning four of five singles matches to clinch their second win. The Seawolves picked up straight set sweeps at the No. 4 and No. 5 slots, as
Jessica Harris and
Stephanie Hoffmire were 6-0, 6-0 winners. The lone point for the Banana Slugs in the match was secured by Kyla Rowe, as she dispatched
Molly Maguire in straight sets at No. 2 singles 6-0, 7-5.
Sonoma State returns home Feb. 13, when they battle Cal State Stanislaus in CCAA competition. First serve at Seawolf Courts is set for 12:00 p.m.
