ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State women's tennis team retuned to the Seawolf Courts Friday afternoon, losing to Division I San Jose State, 6-3. The loss drops the Seawolves to 2-1.
In doubles play, San Jose State picked up two wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Amber Silverstone teamed with Anna Guzman to defeat the Seawolf duo of
Stephanie Luk and
Molly Maguire, 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, the Spartan pair of Kerri Kummer and Olivia Marshall took down
Haley Hickock and
Dana Carollo, 8-2. The lone doubles victory for the Seawolves was posted by the team of
Stephanie Hoffmire and
Jeanette Peck, 8-5 at No. 3.
San Jose State won the first four singles matches to clinch their third win of the season. The Spartans were straight set winners at No. 1 (6-4, 6-1) and No. 2 (6-1, 6-1), as Silverstone and Dukic were victorious. San Jose State picked up two more victories at No. 3 and No. 5, as Marshall dispatched Carollo (7-5, 2-6, 6-0) and Guzman defeated
Jessica Harris (7-5, 6-2).
Sonoma State posted two singles wins to end the match. At No. 6, Bulich outlasted Williams (6-3, 1-6, 7-6, (10-5). In another marathon match, Peck closed out Kummer (6-7 (7-1), 7-6 (7-4), 10-5).
Sonoma State returns to action Saturday afternoon when they host conference foe Cal Poly Pomona. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
