ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State women's tennis team commenced their 2009 spring opener victorious, as the Seawolves dispatched the Academy of Art Wednesday afternoon, 6-3. Sonoma opens the season 1-0, while the Urban Knights remain winless at 0-2.
The Seawolves took the early lead backed by wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The Seawolf duo of
Dana Carollo and
Haley Hickock swept past Paolo Correa Fe and Maria Tenorio 8-0, and
Jeanette Peck and
Stephanie Hoffmire made quick work out of Anna Ritchie and Cecilia Hedin, 8-1.
In singles play, Sonoma posted four victories at the No. 3 through 6 slots to secure the win.
Molly Maguire (6-0, 6-1),
Jessica Harris (6-0, 6-0), and
Stephanie Hoffmire (6-1, 6-0) all breezed to victory over their opponents. The Urban Knights did pick up an impressive win at No. 1 singles, as Cassy Fabianni cruised over
Stephanie Luk 6-0, 6-1.
The Seawolves return to the court Feb. 6, as they hit the road and take on Santa Clara. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
