ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The No. 42 Sonoma State women's tennis team avenged an early season loss to No. 32 Cal State Stanislaus this Sunday afternoon at Seawolf Courts, narrowly edging the Warriors, 5-4. Cal State Stanislaus defeated Sonoma 5-4 back on March 20 in Turlock. The Seawolves conclude regular season play 11-9 overall and 6-4 in the CCAA, while the Warriors fall to 9-3 on the season and 6-3 in conference play.
Sonoma posted two wins in doubles play to secure the 2-1 advantage. At No. 2 doubles, Haley Hickock and Dana Carollo teamed to take down the No. 9 ranked doubles squad in the West Region of Brianna McClintock and Vanessa Reibstein, 8-6. Sonoma captured the doubles lead when Mary Bulich and Stephanie Hoffmire defeated Heather Cotter and Lexy Harrington, 8-3.
Needing only to split their singles matches to capture the upset victory, Sonoma did exactly that, grabbing victories at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 in straight sets. Molly Maguire downed Lexy Harrington (6-4, 6-1), Bulich dispatched McClintock (6-3, 6-3), and Jessica Harris sealed the deal against Cotter (6-1, 6-1).
