ROHNERT PARK, Calif- After a delayed start due to wet conditions, the Sonoma State women's tennis team opened up its 2010 season and wasted no time in grabbing the early 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches, then the Seawolves continued to win five of the six singles matches to take the 8-1 victory over visiting Academy of Art on Wednesday afternoon.

Stephanie Luk and Molly Maguire claimed their first victory of the season as the No. 1 doubles team with a 8-5 decision over Diane Phan and Laone Botshoma. Haley Hickock and Jessica Harris along with the doubles team of Jeanette Peck and Stephanie Hoffmire dispatched their respective opponents by an identical 8-4 score.

Luk then ran into trouble in the singles match against Phan, Academy of Art's No. 1 singles competitor. Phan took the 6-0, 6-1 decision, but it would be the Urban Knights' only victory of the day. Hickock (6-2, 6-4), Peck (6-2, 6-0), Maguire (6-0, 6-0), Hoffmire (6-0, 6-2) and Harris (6-1, 6-0) all took care of business to give Sonoma State its first win of the season.

Sonoma State will travel to UC Davis on Saturday. The match will begin at 11:30 a.m.
