POMONA, Calif- After dropping two of the three doubles matches to Hawaii-Hilo on Sunday morning, Sonoma State's
Drexler Dy clinched the match victory at the No. 5 singles position over the Vulcans' Ross Sugiyama, helping the No. 36 Seawolves to a 5-4 come-from-behind victory in Pomona. Sonoma State, who is ranked fourth in the west region, improves to 5-5 on the season.
Quan Vu and
Andrew Khuri-Yakub notched the only doubles victory at the No. 3 spot on Sunday, defeating Sugiyama and Larson Oliva 8-3.
After Vu's victory in doubles, he followed it up with a singles victory at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Justin Dugan.
Scott Gaynor has won three straight singles matches after his 6-3, 6-2 victory over Aaron Tada at No. 4.
Anthony Rollins, who replaced
Aaron Hamilton at No. 6 midway through the match, came back to defeat Matthew Tavares 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
It was then up to Dy as the match was tied at four. After winning the first set 6-4, Dy loss the second, 3-6. He fought hard and came out with the convincing 6-2 win in the third set, clinching the match victory for Sonoma State.
Sonoma State will take on San Francisco on Mar. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cal Club in San Francisco.
