ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Katya Welborn and Lauren Ha teamed up to defeat Fresno Pacific's Heidi Jackson and Erin Carlson in doubles competition, but the visiting Sunbirds cruised right through the rest of the match, defeating Sonoma State, 8-1, on Friday afternoon at the SSU Tennis Courts. It was the 2011 opener for the Seawolves, as they fall to 0-1 this season.

The duo of Welborn and Ha earned the hard-fought victory over the duo of Jackson and Carlson, 8-3, but Dana Carollo/Haley Hickock (8-3) and Megan White/Sheena Johnson (8-4) fell in their doubles matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively.

In singles play, Johnson and Kim Alballat managed to steal two points from their opponents in a single set, but both were defeated by identical scores of 6-0, 6-2.  Hickock fell 6-1, 6-1 to FPU's Christina Valladares and Welborn was defeated by Yumiko Justin, 6-0, 6-1. Carollo, at the No. 1 spot, and White, at the No. 3 spot, were swept in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).

Sonoma State will take on UC Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz next Friday. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
