Sonoma Earns Hard-Fought Win Over San Jose State

Haley Hickock earned victories in both singles and doubles play.
SAN JOSE, Calif- Haley Hickock and Dana Carollo came up big with a tough victory at No. 2 doubles, paving the way for a huge upset 4-3 win for the Sonoma State women's tennis team over Division I San Jose State on Thursday in San Jose. The Seawolves improve to 5-3 this season before heading to Belmont on Saturday to face Notre Dame de Namur.

Hickock and Carollo fought with all they could, earning a narrow 9-8 (4) doubles win, before their teammates, Stephanie Hoffmire and Brooke McBride helped the Seawolves grab the team's doubles point with a 8-4 win at No. 3. The doubles point was critical as the Spartans came back with victories at No. 1, 2 and 5. However, Megan White, Hickock and Hoffmire dispatched their opponents to help the Seawolves steal their fifth win of the season.

This victory over San Jose State on Thursday comes after the Spartans visited Rohnert Park on Feb. 20 and cruised to an 8-1 win.

It is also the Seawolves' first-ever win over the Spartans.  Sonoma had been 0-21 against their NCAA Division I counterparts.

The last time Sonoma State knocked off a Division I squad was in 2002, when they beat Portland State 9-0.

Sonoma State and Notre Dame de Namur is set to face each other on Saturday in Belmont. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
