GRAND JUNCTION, Colo- Heading into the weekend looking for its first victory over a Division II opponent, the Sonoma State men's tennis team found four of them, sweeping the weekend trip to Colorado after a 9-0 win over host Mesa State on Sunday morning in Grand Junction, Colo. The Seawolves improve to 5-12 this season while the Mavericks fall to 9-16.

SSU also defeated Colorado State-Pueblo and Colorado Christian on Friday before knocking off Montana State-Billings on Saturday.

Taylor Bianco and Daniel Henke earned a hard-fought win at the No. 1 doubles against Jaco Gerbands and Andrew Hernandez, taking the match 9-8 (5). Drexler Dy and Bryce Keefer dispatched their opponents at No. 2 doubles (8-6) and Stewart Hutton and Scott Gaynor cruised to a 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Gaynor took his opponent to a tiebreaking third set and came out on top (4-6, 7-6, 6-2) at the No. 3 position. Hutton also went to a tiebreaking third set and prevailed (2-6, 6-1, 6-4). Henke won his first set in tiebreaking fashion before winning his match with ease in the second set (7-6 (2), 6-3). Bianco, Dy and Keefer defeated their opponents in straight sets as well.

Sonoma State will return home to close out the regular season by hosting the Sonoma State Invitational on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the SSU Tennis Courts. The Seawolves will face Grand Canyon (Thursday at 2 p.m.), Hawaii Hilo (Friday at 10 a.m.) and UC San Diego (Saturday at 2 p.m.).
