Women's Tennis Ends Arizona Trip With Loss To #14 'Lopes

GLENDALE, Ariz. --  The pairing of Stephanie Hoffmire and Brooke McBride gave the Sonoma State women's tennis a glimmer of hope that an upset of No. 14 Grand Canyon was brewing, but the Antelopes swept all six singles matches to earn a convincing 8-1 win over the Seawolves on Sunday at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz.  SSU wraps up its four-day trip to Arizona after a pair of wins and losses, moving its season record to 3-2.  Grand Canyon improves to 5-1.

Hoffmire and McBride played an extremely tough match at the No. 2 doubles position, eventually winning in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-4), over Priscilla Annoual and Franziska Schmid.  It would be the only point that the Seawolves would get in the match.

Sonoma State is set to return home and face Sierra College on Friday in an exhibition match, starting at 12:30 p.m.  The Seawolves will then hit the road for four games over a 15-day span before returning home on Mar. 9 to host Western New Mexico.
