ROHNERT PARK -- The Sonoma State women's tennis team surrendered just five sets on Friday, as the Seawolves improve to 5-3 this season with a convincing 9-0 victory over visiting Holy Names at the SSU Tennis Courts. It was announced this week that Sonoma State is ranked at No. 10 in the NCAA Division II West Region poll.
The duo of
Megan White and
Lauren Shafer earned a shutout at No. 2 doubles as White,
Lauren Ha and
Spencer Trotta each recorded clean 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at No. 2, 4 and 5 singles.
Sara Celma earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at the top of the singles line up and
Sheena Johnson recorded a win at No. 4 with set scores of 6-0, 6-1. Selma and
Chloe Jolliff also grabbed an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
Sonoma State will head to southern California next weekend to play three matches in three days, beginning with a date against UC San Diego on Mar. 1 at 1:00 p.m. at the Northview Tennis Courts in La Jolla. The Seawolves will then travel north to Los Angeles to play Cal State L.A. on Mar. 2, followed by a neutral-site match with Hawai'i-Hilo on Mar. 3, also in Los Angeles. SSU's next home match is scheduled for Mar. 8 against Notre Dame de Namur.
