#14 Grand Canyon 9, Sonoma State 0
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Lauren Ha played a pair of grueling matches on Thursday, but 14th-ranked Grand Canyon would be too much for Ha and the Sonoma State women's team down the stretch as the Seawolves fell victim to a 9-0 sweep by the Antelopes on Thursday at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz. Sonoma falls to 1-1 while Grand Canyon moves to 2-0 this season with two consecutive sweeps.
In doubles play, Ha and partner
Sheena Johnson forced the duo of Frederique Van de Velde and Jordan Bridges to extra points, but the pair from GCU would pull out the 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles.
In the singles competition, Ha would force a tiebreaker in the first set, but after a long, emotional battle with Grand Canyon's Bridges at No. 6 singles, it would be Bridges that pulled out the 12-10 tiebreaking win to lead the match 1-0. She would then go on to sweep the second set from Ha (6-0) to win the match. The rest of the Seawolf lineup would also battle with the 'Lopes, but GCU came away with wins in straight sets to secure the 9-0 match victory.
Sonoma State continues its Arizona trip with a match against Montana State Billings on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
