Celma Earns Only Point In 8-1 Loss To #27 UC San Diego

Sara Celma is 7-1 this season at No. 1 singles after earning a win in straight sets on Friday.

LA JOLLA, Calif. --
Sara Celma extended her winning streak to six matches at No. 1 singles, improving to 7-1 overall with a victory in straight sets, but it would be the only point earned by the Sonoma State women's tennis team in Friday's 8-1 loss to 27th-ranked UC San Diego at Northview Tennis Courts in La Jolla.  The Seawolves, who are ranked at No. 10 in the West Region, fall to 5-4 this season.  The Tritons, ranked fifth in the region and 27th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), improve to 6-2.

While Celma cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, she and doubles partner, Chloe Jolliff, almost snagged a win at No. 1 doubles, but lost in a tiebreaker -- 9-8 (7-3) -- to Melissa Breisacher and Kyra Scott.

Sonoma State will travel north on Saturday to face 14th-ranked Cal State L.A. at the CSULA Tennis Courts in Los Angeles.  First serve is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
