#46 Seawolves Breeze By Warriors To Sweep Season Series

Sara Celma has won eight consecutive matches, including Tuesday's victory over a nationally-ranked opponent.
#46 Sonoma State 8, Cal State Stanislaus 1

ROHNERT PARK --
Sara Celma improved to 15-2 this season, including wins in each of her last eight matches, after knocking off Davina Meza, who is individually-ranked at No. 25 in Division II, in straight sets on Tuesday afternoon, setting the tone for Sonoma State's convincing 8-1 victory over Cal State Stanislaus.

The 46th-ranked Seawolves have won five straight matches -- and eight of their last nine -- to improve to 13-6 this season, securing the program's ninth winning season since it was reinstated in 1997.  The win also clinched SSU's first-ever season sweep of the Warriors, who dropped to 1-11 this season.

Celma cruised to a victory in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) over the nationally-ranked Meza, as did all but one of the Seawolves on Tuesday.  Chloe Jolliff (6-2, 6-4), Sheena Johnson (6-2, 6-1), Lauren Ha (6-0, 6-0) and Lauren Shafer (6-2, 6-1) notched wins at positions three through six, respectively, in singles play.  The only loss came at No. 2 singles; Megan White took the first set, but Cal State Stanislaus' Kelsey Chrisco came back to force a third-set tiebreaker, in which she triumphed to defeat White (2-6, 6-2, 10-6).

Ha's victory at No. 5 singles was also her eighth straight win as she improves to 14-3 in dual matches this season (and 38-18 in her career).  Johnson (12-4) has won seven straight and both Jolliff (9-8) and Shafer (11-6) have won five straight matches.

The Seawolves won all three doubles matches to begin the day.  White and Shafer made quick work of Aubree Brenda and Kaitlyn Ireland at No. 3 (8-1), Celma and Jolliff teamed up to beat Meza and McKenzy Harden at No. 1 (8-5), then Ha and Johnson completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Chrisco and Jessica Stokes at No. 2.

Sonoma State, which is 8-2 at home this season, will face a stiff test in 11th-ranked Fresno Pacific (15-6) on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the SSU Tennis Courts.
