#11 Fresno Pacific 6, #46 Sonoma State 3

ROHNERT PARK -- Sheena Johnson and Lauren Ha teamed up for a victory in doubles, then turned around and won their singles matches as well, but it wouldn't be enough for the Sonoma State women's tennis team on Friday as they dropped a 6-3 decision to 11th-ranked Fresno Pacific.  The Seawolves made the Sunbirds (17-6) labor for their fifth win in their last six matches.  The Seawolves, now 13-7, see an end to their five-match winning streak.

After a lengthy rain delay, play finally commenced around noon, a full two hours after the match's intended start.  The wet conditions made no difference to Johnson and Ha, however, as they rolled to an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.  As it turned out, that would be the only point earned by the Seawolves in doubles action, putting the Sunbirds on top 2-1 heading into singles.

Fresno Pacific played its way to straight set victories at the top three positions, but their hopes for a clean sweep were thwarted at No. 4 and No. 5.  Johnson, playing at No. 4 singles won her first set 7-5, then steamrolled to a 6-0 win in the second set.  Likewise, Ha was a 7-5 winner in the first before cruising 6-1 in the second. 

Sonoma State almost earned a split in singles play, but a comeback attempt by Lauren Shafer was thwarted (6-3, 3-6, 10-7). 

The Seawolves will look to return to the win column on Saturday when they skip down to San Rafael for a match with Dominican.
