Coyotes Run Away With Victory Over Seawolves In CCAA Opener

ROHNERT PARK -- Hannah Sourek scored a team-high 12 points and Leeana Bade added 11 with nine rebounds, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team suffered a 70-52 loss to visiting Cal State San Bernardino in the CCAA opener on Friday night at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves fall to 1-3 overall and begin the conference slate at 0-1.  The Coyotes remain undefeated at 5-0 this season (1-0 CCAA).

Cal State San Bernardino led from start to finish, but Sonoma State would remain close for much of the first half.  However, trailing by four points at 28-24 with 6:13 to play in the opening period, the Seawolves surrendered a 12-2 run to the Coyotes to end the half with a score of 40-26 in favor of CSUSB.

The momentum continued for CSU San Bernardino into the second half as the visitors scored the first seven points to extend its lead to 47-26.  The Coyotes eventually took their largest lead of the night with 13:54 left in regulation, a 25-point advantage at 56-31.  Sonoma State then scored six unanswered points to come within 19 points, but both teams began to trade baskets over the next seven minutes.  The Seawolves cut the Coyotes lead to 15 at 67-52 on a jump shot by Sourek with 3:55 left, but that would be the last points SSU would score the rest of the way.

The Seawolves connected on 36.7 percent of their shots (22 of 60) and just 4 of 18 from long range (22.2 percent), while the Coyotes drained 48.3 percent of their shots (28 of 58) despite going just 3 of 14 from downtown (21.4 percent).

CSUSB was led by the 21-point, 15-rebound effort from Brianna Harden.  Three others scored in double-figures, including Alexcia Mack (12), Adriana Brodie (12), and Chelsea Barnes (11).  The Coyotes held the advantage in rebounds (44-33), steals (9-4) and blocks (3-1).

Sonoma State returns to action Saturday when it hosts Humboldt State in The Wolves' Den at 5:30 pm.
