#28 Seawolves Nearly Perfect Against Penguins Spring Opener

Sara Celma helped the Seawolves get their spring off to a splendid start.
ROHNERT PARK, Calif.  --  After a cancelled scrimmage earlier this week, the 28th-ranked Sonoma State women's tennis team opened the spring season with a bang on Saturday against the Dominican Penguins. The Seawolves started with a 3-0 sweep in doubles, only losing 3 games in the process. They also won five of six singles matches to cruise to an 8-1 victory.

The nation's 21st-ranked doubles team of Sara Celma and Kaitlyn Haithcock started the day beating Irina Morozova and Caitlin Aloia by the score of 8-2. Johnson and Leire Martinez followed with an 8-1 victory over Vicari and Kelly Zwicker. Lauren Ha and Karlee Budge then finished the doubles sweep with an 8-0 win over Francesca Katafias and Katie Gomez.

Every singles match was won in straight sets, five of them by Sonoma State. 10th-ranked Celma led the way with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Morozova at No. 1.  Leire Martinez, Katilyn Haithcock, Lauren Ha, and Karlee Budge were also all convincing winners.
