DAVIS, Calif. -- Leire Martinez claimed a victory in straight sets at No. 2 singles and Kaitlyn Haithcock also pulled off a win at No. 3, but the Sonoma State women's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to Division I UC Davis on Sunday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center in Davis.  The Seawolves, who are ranked at No. 32 in Division II, fall to 4-4 this season and the Aggies rise to 5-5.

Host UC Davis captured the point in doubles play after 8-3 and 8-2 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.  In singles, Martinez cruised to her sixth consecutive singles win -- all in straight sets -- after defeating Layla Sanders (6-3, 6-3).  Haithcock lost her first set, but rallied to take a 6-5 lead in the second set before her opponent Nicole Koehly was forced to retire.  However, the Aggies clinched the match soon thereafter, thanks to UCD wins at the bottom half of the lineup, all in straight sets.

Sonoma State will play at UC Santa Cruz next Sunday at Noon before returning home to play eight straight home matches, beginning with a Mar. 14 date with Division I Weber State.
