SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- A perfect run through both singles and doubles resulted in a 9-0 win for the Sonoma State women's tennis team in San Rafael on Sunday against Dominican University. Five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets as the Seawolves won for the 10th time in their last 11 matches. Sonoma improves to 14-5 overall on the season while Dominican, ranked 10th in the west region, falls to 8-5.
Earlier in the season, the Seawolves defeated Dominican 8-1. Their one loss came at No. 4, where Chloe Vicari outlasted
Sheena Johnson. On Saturday, Johnson got her revenge, coming back for a hard-fought 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 win.
Sara Celma and
Leire Martinez led the way at the top, winning handily to improve to 14-2 and 16-2, respectively, in the spring.
Kaitlyn Haithcock (#3),
Lauren Ha (#5), and
Karlee Budge (#6) all did their jobs to preserving the sweep and extending the Seawolves' run of dominance in singles play.
As a team, the Seawolves have a 115-44 record in singles play this season, a winning percentage of .723.
The Seawolves will head down to the City on Sunday to take on 14th-ranked Academy of Art.
