Pomona Runs Past Sonoma In Saturday Women's Hoops Action

POMONA, Calif. -- Pre-season conference favorite Cal Poly Pomona built a large first half lead before cruising to an 80-56 win over Sonoma State on Saturday night at Kellogg Gym in Pomona.  The Seawolves got 15 points from Taylor Acosta and 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from Molly Kommer as they see their overall and conference records evened out at 6-6, 4-4 CCAA.  The Broncos won for the ninth time in their last ten games, improving to 9-3, 7-1 CCAA.

The Seawolves kept things close for the first few minutes before a 9-0 Bronco run built a 12-4 lead midway through the first half.  The first half margin would grow to as many as 19 before settling on a 41-24 halftime lead for the home team.

While the Seawolves battled in the second half, they could get no closer than ten points the rest of the way.  Cal Poly Pomona did a nice job defensively, holding the Sonoma to just 33% shooting in the game and 14 points over the final 14 minutes.

In addition to her team-high 15 points, Acosta was tops with six rebounds and two steals.  Kommer's 5-for-6 shooting night was highlighted by a 3-for-3 performance behind the arc.  Madison Burroughs guided the offense with five assists.

Ariel Marsh had 24 points and Jada Blackwell recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Broncos.

The Seawolves will conclude their four-game road sojourn next weekend against Northern California rivals Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State.
