ROHNERT PARK -- Hannah Sourek made her season debut on Tuesday, coming off the bench to score 19 points and grab eight rebounds while the Sonoma State women's basketball team held visiting William Jessup to just 39 points to win its 2015-16 home opener, 55-39, at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves improve to 2-1 on the year.
William Jessup scored the first five points of the contest in the first minute before the teams would trade baskets over the next six minutes.
Tanner Adams then hit a 3-pointer to break a 13-13 tie and kickstart an 8-0 run by the Seawolves, eventually settling for a six-point advantage (21-15) at the end of the first quarter. In the second period, a layup by
Kim Savio followed by another from Sourek put SSU up by double-digits and would not lead by less than 10 points the rest of the way.
While Sourek led all players in points and rebounds,
Kayla Coloyan put in seven points and
Jerrica Crosby added six points with seven boards. The Seawolves shot 33.3 percent for the game on 19 of 57 while holding the Warriors to just 29.1 percent on 16 of 55 attempts.
Sonoma State will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Menlo at 3:00 pm in The Wolves' Den.
