ROHNERT PARK -- The Sonoma State women's basketball team jumped out to a 6-2 lead early on, but visiting UC San Diego answered with a 21-3 run over the next 10 minutes and didn't look back as the Seawolves suffered an 85-52 defeat to the Tritons on Wednesday night at The Wolves' Den. 
Sonoma fell to 4-4 overall and opens CCAA play with an 0-1 record.  UC San Diego improved to 6-1 and 2-1 in conference play.
Serena Santos came off the bench to lead the Seawolves with seven points, followed by three players -- 
Jerrica Crosby, 
Madison Burroughs and 
Taylor Todd -- with six points.  Sonoma shot 33.3 percent as a team on 19 of 57 from the floor.
The Tritons had four players score in double-figures, led by 18 points out of the hands of Cassie MacLeod.  Farrah Shokoor turned in a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Sonoma State will hit the road for a CCAA matchup against conference-newcomer Cal State San Marcos on Saturday at 5:30 pm in San Marcos.
