ROHNERT PARK -- The 25th-ranked Sonoma State women's tennis team swept past visiting Dominican 9-0 on Sunday at the SSU Tennis Courts in Rohnert Park in a continuation of a match that began Saturday, but was suspended due to rain and lightning. The Seawolves have won three straight matches, all shutouts, improving to 6-3 this season. The Penguins fell to 1-4.
After claiming three victories in doubles play, including a narrow 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles by
Jordyn Kearney and
Kaitlyn Haithcock, Sonoma continued its success with six singles wins, five in straight sets. The other, at No. 2, Haithcock suffered a 6-1 loss in the opening set, but rebounded for a 7-5 win before an 11-9 triumph in the 10-point tiebreaker to clinch the shutout for the Seawolves.
Sonoma State will hit the road for its next two matches, taking on No. 15 UC San Diego on Saturday in La Jolla before facing No. 23 Cal State L.A. on Sunday, both at 11:00 am.
