ROHNERT PARK -- Having beat UC San Diego just once in its history, one that features 25 matches dating back to 2000, the Sonoma State women's tennis team didn't let it bother them as the 24th-ranked Seawolves earned a huge victory over 17th-ranked UC San Diego, 6-3, on Saturday at the SSU Tennis Courts. 

Sonoma won its fifth-straight match, improving to 13-6 this season, including a 9-1 mark at home.  The Tritons dropped to 11-9.

Kaitlyn Haithcock and Jordyn Kearney dispatched their opponents at No. 2 doubles with an 8-5 margin, but it would be the only point SSU earned in doubles play.

Trailing 2-1 going into singles play, Leire Martinez notched an early victory when eighth-ranked Kyra Scott was forced to retire.  UCSD's Britta Mosser gave the Tritons a 3-2 lead in the match with her win over Kaitlyn Haithcock at No. 3 singles, but Hillary Fazekas (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) and Karlee Budge (6-2, 2-6, 6-2) gave the Seawolves a 4-3 lead before Jacquelyn Ward clinched the match victory at No. 5 with a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 win for the hosts.  Kearney put the exclamation mark on the contest with her come-from-behind 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win at No. 2 to lift the Seawolves to the 6-3 win.

Sonoma State will play its final home match of the season on Sunday when it hosts Cal State Stanislaus at 12:00 pm/
