LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Jacquelyn Ward earned a victory at No. 5 singles after winning the 10-point tiebreaker, but it was the only point scored by the Sonoma State women's tennis team in an 8-1 loss to 15th-ranked UC San Diego on Saturday in La Jolla.  The Seawolves, ranked 25th in the nation, drop to 6-4 on the year while the Tritons move to 8-4.

Host UCSD won the first eight matches to take the 8-0 lead on the day, including five singles matches in straight sets, but at No. 5 singles, Ward, who won her first set 6-3, dropped the second 3-6, inducing the 10-point tiebreaker to settle the score.  It was in the tiebreaker that Ward outlasted Nousha Nowamooz, 10-5, for the victory, her fifth consecutive singles win, improving to 7-2 in dual matches this season.

Leire Martinez saw her six-match win streak come to an end after suffering a 6-1, 6-3 loss to 22nd-ranked Kyra Scott of UCSD.

Sonoma State will take on No. 23 Cal State L.A. in Los Angeles on Sunday.  First serve is set for 11:00 am.
