LOS ANGELES -- Down 2-0 in doubles play, the Sonoma State women's tennis team got a victory from
Kaitlyn Haithcock and
Jordyn Kearney at No. 2 doubles, but in the end, it would be the only point recorded against 23rd-ranked Cal State L.A. in an 8-1 loss on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles. The Seawolves, the 25th-ranked team in the nation, dropped to 6-5 this season, as the Golden Eagles improved to 4-4.
Following the 8-3 win by Haithcock and Kearney in doubles play, three Seawolves (Haithcock,
Karlee Budge and
Hillary Fazekas) would force 10-point tiebreakers in their respective singles matches, but came up short of a win. Haithcock (7-6, 3-6, 7-10) and Budge (7-5, 1-6, 1-10) won their first set before losing the next and the ensuing tiebreaker. Fazekas (2-6, 6-4, 4-10) came back to win her second set after losing the first, but suffered the same fate of her teammates.
Sonoma State will host No. 22 Point Loma on Tuesday at the SSU Tennis Courts at 10:00 am before traveling to Reno, Nev., next weekend to play Cal State Stanislaus (Saturday) and Nevada (Sunday).
