OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Sonoma State women's tennis team wrapped up the 2015 regular season with a 9-0 victory over Holy Names in Oakland on Sunday morning, matching last year's regular season win total of 16 in the process.
The 24th-ranked Seawolves (16-7) have won 10 of their last 12 matches, including 10 in a row against NCAA Division II competition. They haven't lost to a fellow Division II school since March 8th. The Hawks dropped to 16-6, having lost only their second match in their last 15.
Sonoma cruised to three wins in doubles play to take the early 3-0 lead in the match. In singles play,
Leire Martinez (6-0, 6-4),
Jordyn Kearney (6-1, 6-3),
Jacquelyn Ward (6-4, 6-3) and
Hillary Fazekas (6-0, 6-1) won easily in straight sets to clinch the match before
Kaitlyn Haithcock (6-2, 1-6, 10-8) and
Karlee Budge (6-1, 6-7, 10-3) dispatched their opponents at No. 3 and No. 4 with a 10-8 and 10-3 victory in the third-set tiebreaker, respectively, to complete the shutout.
Sonoma State will fly to Arizona this week to compete in the Pacific West Conference Championships beginning on Thursday.
