SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Sonoma State men's tennis team used a dominating performance to sweep past the University of Hawaii at Hilo on Friday morning at the Pacific West Conference Championships in Surprise, Arizona. The Seawolves won 5-0 to set up a battle for fifth place on Saturday against Holy Names.
With the win, the Seawolves completed a three-match season sweep of the Vulcans. They beat UHH 7-2 in their previous two meetings, on February 13th in Hawaii and March 24th in Rohnert Park.
The Vulcans made things competitive in doubles before watching the Seawolves pull away for 8-2, 8-6, and 8-5 wins.
Only three of the singles matches were completed as Sonoma captured the team win with time to spare.
Blaine Mengert won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 and
Daniel Holz won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4.
Tomorrow's match against Holy Names is set for 9:00 am.
