SEASIDE, Calif.-- Sonoma State got an early lead two-run lead, but saw Cal State Monterey Bay score seven unanswered runs on their way to a 7-2 victory Friday in Seaside. The loss sends the Seawolves CCAA record to 17-20 and 23-24 overall. The Otters are now 24-13 in the conference and 28-19 overall.
The Seawolves got on the board in the second inning when
Devin Alexander singled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a
Cody Morris double.
Eric Ehlow grounded out to shortstop to score Alexander to make it 1-0. The Seawolves started another rally in the third when
Philip Ramos reached on a wild pitch after striking out and advanced to second on another wild pitch.
Cameron Merriwether sent home Ramos with a single to make it 2-0.
Alex Crosby went 2 for 3 on the day. It was Crosby's 17th multi-hit game of the season. Merriwether went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
Ryan Luna started the game and took the loss (4-5) after pitching four innings and giving up five earned runs on 10 hits.
The Otters were led at the plate by Ty Morris, who went 2 for 4 with three RBI's. Cody Gappa got the win (6-4) for Cal State Monterey Bay after pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits.
The four-game series between Sonoma State and Cal State Monterey Bay resumes Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 P.M.
