SEASIDE, Calif.—Sonoma State had a rough day as they were swept in a doubleheader at Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday by scores of 10-1 in the first game and 7-6 in extra innings in game two. The Seawolves left the diamond with a CCAA record of 17-22 and 23-25 overall. The Otters are now 26-13 in conference play and 31-18 overall.
Game 1: Cal State Monterey Bay 10, Sonoma State 1Sonoma State got into an early hole after Cal State Monterey Bay scored three runs in the first inning, and would fall behind 4-0 before they scored their lone run of the game when
Brandon Baranzini reached on an infield single that allowed
Devin Alexander to score from third. The Seawolves weren't able to get any closer than 4-1 and had to settle for defeat in game one.
In addition to the RBI single in the fourth, Baranzini got another hit to go 2 for 3. Alexander and
Cameron Merriwether got the other two hits for the Seawolves.
DeVon Golden started and took the loss (3-5), allowing seven earned runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. Golden struck out six batters to see his season total reach 48.
Ryan Boydstun got the win (5-2) for the Otters after going five innings and allowing an earned run on one hit. Ty Morris went 3 for 4 with three RBI's to lead the offense.
Game 2: Cal State Monterey Bay 7, Sonoma State 6 (8 innings)The second game started the same way the first game did, with the Otters jumping out to an early lead at 2-0 in the first inning, but the Seawolves were able to answer the early lead this time. After slicing the lead in half in the second on a
Daniel Caresio RBI single to make it 2-1, the Seawolves would have a huge third inning. Alexander and
Spencer Neve delivered RBI singles to give the Seawolves a 3-2 lead and
Adam Manzer connected on a three-run homer (3) to right field to cap-off a five run inning and a 6-2 lead. The Otters would chip-away at the lead the rest of the game and tie it at six in the fifth inning and walked-off in the eighth to claim victory.
Manzer finished the game 2 for 4 with three RBI's. Caresio went 2 for 5 with an RBI. Neve and Alexander each had a hit and an RBI.
Ricky Clark took the loss (2-1) after giving up the game winning run in extra innings.
Jacob Cox got the win (4-1) after pitching a scoreless top of the eighth. Brian Hamm went 3 for 4 with two RBI's to pace the offense.
Sonoma State concludes their 2015 season with a game Sunday at Cal State Monterey Bay. First pitch is slated for 11:00 A.M.
