IRVINE, Calif. -- Leire Martinez and
Jacquelyn Ward were selected to the 2015 All-Pacific West Conference Women's Tennis Team, it was annouced by the league office Friday. Martinez was a Second Team pick in singles play while her and Ward earned Second Team accolades as partners in doubles play.
Martinez, from Santurzi, Spain, went 14-6 as the team's No. 1 singles player this season and is currently ranked at No. 46 among all NCAA Division II singles players (and No. 9 in the West Region), rising one spot from No. 47 last month. The senior wrapped up her two-year career at Sonoma State with a 34-9 record in singles action.
In doubles play, Martinez paired with Ward and went 14-8 at the top of the lineup, finishing the 2015 campaign ranked No. 6 in the West Region.
The PacWest tennis awards and teams are based on a combination of coach voting and national rankings. The individual player and coach awards are nominated and selected by the PacWest coaches. The All-PacWest teams are based on the ITA West Region rankings released prior to the NCAA Championship (April 22).
