No. 21 Seawolves Blast Eagles 5-0 For Largest Win Since 2011

IRVINE, Calif. -- Five Sonoma State men's soccer players scored a goal on Thursday, and Mitch North recorded his second straight shutout in goal, highlighting Thursday's 5-0 blowout of Concordia in Irvine.

It was the biggest win for the Seawolves (3-0-0) since a 9-0 drubbing of Cal State East Bay back on Sept. 16, 2011, and they are off to their best start since 2008.  The Eagles stumbled to 0-2-0.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Sonoma State made its debut in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II Top 25 Poll for the first time since 2012, coming in at No. 21.  The Seawolves are the only CCAA team ranked in the Top 25 this week.

Raspreet Sandhu got the scoring started at 19:09 before TJ Perez added his second goal of the season at 38:17.  In the second half, Armando Coronel gave the Seawolves a 3-0 lead with a goal in his second straight game at 48:22, followed by Jonny Blake's first career goal at 52:16 and Dane Shaffer's second career goal at 66:40 to cap the Seawolves' scoring on the day.  Coronel and Brenton Frame each had two assists, as well.

North made four saves, increasing his CCAA-leading season total to 18.

Quotes from head coach Marcus Ziemer:

"We played really well today.  Our attack was very balanced.  We were able to play a lot of people.  We are pretty deep, so when we sub we are just different."

"Concordia had some dangerous players, but our defense did a good job of keeping them in check."

"We got the early goal and then pushed for the second one.  That's the second time this season that TJ Perez has scored at the end of the first half."

"We've been playing well, but we need to regroup and prove it again on Saturday against Point Loma.  They are very good and beat Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-0 last Thursday, so we better be ready to step it up a notch."
