Seawolves Open Conference Play With 0-0 Tie At Cal State L.A.

LOS ANGELES -- Despite holding a significant shot advantage in the match, the Sonoma State women's soccer team was forced into a scoreless tie for the second time in its last three contests, this time at the home of defending CCAA champion Cal State L.A. Friday evening at Jesse Owens Track in Los Angeles.

It was the conference-opener for both squads; the Seawolves move to 2-1-2 overall while the Golden Eagles (0-3-2) are still in search of their first win of the season.

Sonoma peppered Cal State L.A. goalkeeper Adriana Maldonado all night, sending 25 shots in her direction, but the redshirt freshman didn't let one get by her, making a season-high 12 saves, including two in the first overtime and three in the second overtime.  Sara Van Wagoner fired a team-high six shots, two of which were on goal in extra time.  Bella Amyx attempted five shots and Margi Osmundson took four.

Seawolf netminder Ashley Luis also stayed busy, making eight saves, two coming in the second OT, to secure her CCAA-leading fourth shutout of the season through the team's first five matches.  The senior also leads the conference in save percentage (.923) and goals against average (0.37), allowing just two goals in 490 minutes of action.

On the other side, the SSU offense has struggled to find the net since, scoring just once in the last 421+ minutes.

Sonoma State will continue its seven-game road trip on Sunday when it takes on Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson at 11:30 am.
