Volleyball Runs Out Of Steam, Falls To 'Swords On Saturday

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- The Sonoma State women's volleyball team ran out of steam Saturday, falling to host Chaminade in four sets (24-26, 25-16, 17-25, 18-25) to finish the weekend at the Hawaii Invitational with a 2-2 record.  Chaminade improved to 3-0 on the year.

The Seawolves had everything going their way early on, taking a commanding 24-18 lead in the first set, but they failed to score the elusive 25th point, allowing the Silverswords to rally for eight straight points to steal the 26-24 win and take the 1-0 lead in the match.  Sonoma rebounded nicely in the second set to roll to a convincing 25-16 win, evening the match at one apiece, but Chaminade came right back to take the next two sets and secure the 3-1 victory.

Madelyn Densberger had team-highs of 14 kills, 16 digs, four assisted blocks and one solo block and two aces, while Caylie Seitz added 12 kills.  Defensively, Lexi Reddick added 14 digs and Kaitlyn Connolly recorded 11.  Connolly also had two service aces.  However, the Seawolves hit just .104 for the match.

Chaminade was led by the 15 kills of Keani Passi, who hit at a sizzling .464 clip.  As a team, the 'Swords hit .218.

Sonoma State returns to the mainland to take on Dominican down in San Rafael on Friday at 7:00 pm before hosting its home opener on Saturday against Holy Names, also at 7:00 pm.
