A Sweep in the Wolves' Den! Seawolves Terminate Toros in 3

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – In three sets of Seawolves vs Toros there were zero lead changes. Sonoma State dominated the match 25-11, 25-17, 25-17 and improved 3-2 in the CCAA. The Seawolves showed versatility and determination by playing tough defense and performing well across the board. In fact, in the entire match, Cal State Dominguez Hills only achieved 27 kills on 122 attempts and Sonoma topped the Toros in points, 58-38.

Courtney Seda had a night with team highs in service aces, digs, and assists. On the match, Sonoma had 43 kills on 42 assists, 33 from Courtney Seda, with only 11 errors (.267). They set a new season high in service aces with 11; Seda and Emily Papale contributing 3 apiece. Defensively, Sonoma tallied 67 digs, Seda contributed 16, Calan Seitz 15, and Lexi Mudd 12.

It was clear from the first set that the Seawolves came to play.  The second point in the first set was a long rally which lead to a 4-point lead for Sonoma highlighted by a Papale stuff block at 5-1. The real defeat for Cal State Dominguez Hills, was at 11-17 when Sonoma went on an 8 point run to end the set.

In the second set at 10-7, the Seawolves went on an 8-1 run thanks to two service aces by Seitz and kills from Kelsey McIntire, Seda and Caiti Wiesner to bring the score to 16-7. Cal State Dominguez Hills would try to close the gap, but the closest they would get to the Seawolves was within 6 points.

The third and final set had an interesting beginning. The score would go 4-0 in Sonoma's favor then to 4-all, then to 11-4 on a six point run with Seitz at the service line and Papale, Tate Battistini and Andrews all contributing kills. Battistini came in the third set and helped her team with 5 points in all. There was some back and forth from the teams in the middle of the set, but again at 17-13 Sonoma had a six point run, thanks to Toros errors and Kills from Battistini and Andrews, which put them ahead enough to win the set and match comfortably.
