Seawolves Stunned By Game-Winner In 89th Minute At Chico

CHICO, Calif. -- With the match still scoreless after 88 minutes of action, the Sonoma State men's soccer team surrendered the go-ahead goal with just 92 seconds left on the clock in regulation in a stunning 1-0 loss to host Chico State on Friday evening at University Soccer Field in Chico.

The Seawolves see their eight-match unbeaten streak come to an end dropping to 7-3-5 overall and 6-2-2 in the CCAA.  The Wildcats improve to 7-5-3 and 6-3-2 in conference play.

At 88:28, Chico's Dylan Wakefield broke the scoreless tie with his 11th goal of the season on a feed from Mikey Hirsch, a shot that was attempted from point-blank range.  It would hold up to be the game-winner in the end.

Chico outshot Sonoma 15-10, but the Seawolves held the advantage in shots on goal (5-3).  The Seawolves were led by Maury Lopez who had three shots, one on goal.

Mitch North had two saves on the day while Damion Lewis of Chico State led the game with five saves.

Sonoma State will return home Thursday for its second-to-last regular season game. The Seawolves play host to Cal State Dominguez Hills at 3:00 pm before ending the regular season on Saturday at home against Cal State L.A.
