LA JOLLA, Calif. - Sonoma State improved 4-3 in the CCAA with a well earned win over UC San Diego in four sets 24-26, 25-21, 28-26, and 25-23.
Season highs all around tonight for the Seawolves.
Emily Papale had 19 kills on a .390 hitting percentage, set a career record with 19 digs, totaled three service aces and had 23.5 points on the match. Freshman Baelie Wiesner had a team high on the night and a personal season high of 26 assists in her CCAA debut. Olivia Shonewise had 11 kills,
Rachel Andrews had seven blocks and had a hitting percentage of .350. The team also had a total of nine aces and set a team record of 90 digs for the season.

Megan Bohorquez held down the defense with 20 digs, and
Lexi Mudd followed behind Papale with 16 digs.
Courtney Seda helped her team with 23 assists, respectively.
In the first set the score was point for point until 18 all when Sonoma pulled ahead to 22-18 thanks to a kill by Andrews and Triton errors. Victory was in sight at 24-20, but alas, UC San Diego went on a six point streak due to aggressive attacks and Seawolf errors to take the first set 24-26.
Sonoma was off to a rough start in the second set, indicated by the score of 1-5 when they got on the board, but they came even at eight all. From there the score stayed tight, until 20 all when the Seawolves pulled away. An Andrews kill, two Seawolf blocks, an ace, and Triton error pushed Sonoma to take set two.
What a battle for set three! UC San Diego lead the set and brought the score to 17-23 in their favor.
Caiti Wiesner, Andrews, and Schonewise all had successful kills, that combined with a Triton error, to bring the score at 21-23 and force UC San Diego to a timeout. Out of the huddles, UC San Diego had a kill to bring the set to game point, but followed it with an attack error. 23-24 is when the Seawolves moved in.
Lexi Mudd had a service ace. Papale and the Tritons traded blows, till an Andrews kill brought the set 26 all.
Baelei Wiesner aced her serve and an attack from Papale ended the set 28-26 Sonoma.
The Seawolves led for most of the fourth set. Aggressive attacking from both sides was present throughout. The score tied five times after 16 all with one time out from Sonoma. At 23 all Schonewise had a kill and then the Tritons had an error which meant the Seawolves had a victory.
The Seawolves will face Chico State in the Wolves' Den at 7pm on Tuesday October 11.
