LOS ANGELES – Sonoma State fell to Cal State LA 56-63 on Saturday evening to open conference play for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Seawolves are now 4-2 on their season overall and 0-1 in the CCAA. The Golden Eagles rise to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Madison Burroughs lead Sonoma State in points (19) and was 8 for 12 from the field. Also scoring for their team was
Kim Savio (9),
Taylor Todd (8),
Carly Gill (7) and
Jessica Mitz (6) following right in line.
Kylie Kiech aided her team with four assists, the team high, and Mitz had 3.
In the first quarter, Sonoma outscored Cal State LA 17 to 15. The next two quarters the teams scored equally, earning 11 points in the second and 18 in the third. It was the fourth quarter that the Golden Eagles pulled ahead and scored 19 points to the Seawolves' 10.
Both teams had the lead three times, the score was tied four times, and neither team scored off of the fast break. Cal State LA was able to capitalize off turnovers and second chance points in the game.
Next up for Sonoma State women's basketball is San Francisco State on Friday December 9th at 5:30pm in Kentfield, CA. The College of Marin will host the contest while the Wolves' Den undergoes construction.
