#19 Seawolves Split With Chico For Second Straight Day

ROHNERT PARK -- Jordann White went 3 for 3 with five RBI, including the go-ahead run-scoring base hit in the bottom of the sixth, lifting the No. 19 Sonoma State softball team to a 6-5 victory over Chico State in Saturday's opener before the Wildcats played spoiler yet again, bouncing back for a 5-0 win over the Seawolves in the series finale.

Sonoma moved to 4-5 this season and Chico stands at 5-3; both teams stand with four other teams in the CCAA at 2-2 after the first weekend of conference play.  Two teams went undefeated; No. 13 Humboldt State swept No. 25 Cal State Monterey Bay in a four-game series and UC San Diego took four games from Stanislaus State.

Sonoma State will play two against Dominican in San Rafael on Wednesday before heading north to Arcata to take on No. 13 Humboldt State in a four-game series on Friday and Saturday.

GAME 1:  #19 Sonoma State 6, Chico State 5

Alee Balanon gave the Seawolves the early 1-0 lead on a single scoring Olivia Lucchese before White came through for a two-run base hit scoring Balanon and Alison Strycula in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.  Sonoma tacked on two more runs in the fourth on a two-RBI double by White to go up 5-0.

The tables turned in the top of the fifth when Chico put up five runs, four of which came on a grand slam by Brynn Lesovsky to knot the game at 5-5.  Then, in the bottom of the sixth, White came through once again, scoring Strycula for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run.

Amanda Llerena (4-2) got the win in the pitching circle for SSU; she allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out eight.  Lucchese went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored, Strycula also 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

GAME 2:  Chico State 5, #19 Sonoma State 0

In the nightcap, Chico State's starting pitcher Brooke Langeloh improved to 4-0 by holding Sonoma State to just three hits in seven innings.  Meanwhile, the Wildcats scored runs in the second, fourth, fifth and seventh to secure the doubleheader split for the second consecutive day.

Mayleen Mazon (0-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs (three earned), six hits and three walks with one strikeout in her seven innings of work.  Strycula, Leanna Georges and Mazon each had a hit in game two.
